Native Illinois Prairie Garden project takes root at Centennial Park

Constructed at the north end of Centennial Park--within the park's detention area--this new prairie garden is designed to attract numerous birds, butterflies and other wildlife. Planting began in the fall of 2010. Some examples of native prairie plants have been placed around the site perimeter as well as harvested Swamp White Oak seedlings.

The project will take a few years to become completely established. Click here to view a color rendering of the site and to learn more about the types of seeds planted in the garden.
