WILMETTE PARK DISTRICT STAFF TO ENGAGE IN HOSTILE INTRUDER / ACTIVE SHOOTER PREPAREDNESS TRAINING
Employees from three high-traffic Wilmette Park District facilities will be better prepared in the event of a life-threatening crisis following full-immersion training this week. Village of Wilmette Law Enforcement staff will also engage in this week’s training program, making sure both entities are on the same page when it comes to preparedness and safety.
“In light of the tragic attacks in public spaces over the past several years, this is the responsible thing to do,” said Steve Wilson, Executive Director at the Wilmette Park District. “We take the safety of our staff and of our patrons very seriously.”
Tier One Tactical Solutions consultants will facilitate their four-hour “4E©” training program. The program includes a 90-minute presentation providing a brief history of Active Killer incidents and the use of sole solution tactics. Staff will then receive instruction on the 4E© Core Principles: Educate, Evade, Escape and Engage. Believing that static presentations are not sufficient to prepare staff for the realities of an Active Killer situation, Tier One will guide trainees through the Core Principles using dynamic, realistic scenarios based upon actual Active Killer incidents.
The techniques learned will build confidence and empower staff to keep everyone safe and secure in a crisis situation. “I know the possibility of an incident in our community is extremely rare,” noted Community Recreation Center Program Manager Carol Heafey. “But we all owe it to each other, and the community, to be as knowledgeable and prepared as possible.”
