Wilmette Gymnastics has some exciting news – a new Gymnastics Supervisor has joined the team! Meet, Sarah Sekki, an Ohio native who comes to us from the Park District of Oak Park where she was the Principle Coach and Program Specialist.

Sekki first discovered her passion for gymnastics while watching the Olympics at 12 years old. She says, “I remember asking my mom, ‘You can do cartwheels and get scored?’” From that time on, she trained, competed and eventually began coaching other children who were inspired by the very same sport. “I have coached for over 20 years,” she exclaims!

After attending Concordia University Chicago and receiving her Teaching Certificate, Sekki worked full-time as a gymnastics instructor with a local club before transitioning to the Chicago Park District as well as working for the Park District of Oak Park. She greatly enjoys her experiences in the parks and recreation field, and is excited to begin her new chapter at the Wilmette Park District. “When I saw a supervisory role open up at Wilmette, and in my favorite sport of gymnastics, I was very eager to apply,” says Sekki. “I look forward to supporting the coaches, helping the department flourish and potentially expanding the classes we offer.”

With the current pandemic situation, Sekki is focused on preparing for the return of programming and the safety of participants. “I feel the energy of our coaches and athletes, and they are eager to come back to the gym,” she explains. “I want to facilitate that transition to go smoothly so that we can all return swiftly and safely.”

We are very excited to have Sekki join the Wilmette Park District family, and just as all the gymnastics participants are excited to meet her face-to-face, we at the Park District can’t wait for the opportunity to give her a proper welcome!
