Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
As the weather warms up, we understand that all of us will want to get out and enjoy the change in seasons. When doing so, we must remain mindful of necessary social distancing practices and enjoy ourselves in a responsible manner. To assist in this effort, we are adding Wilmette Park District staff to Gillson Beach and the Wilmette Golf Club while also adding rotating staff to patrol our parks. This will ensure the proper use of facilities, making sure no group gatherings are taking place including pickup games.
We need your help in keeping all of us safe. Please adhere to guidelines and avoid large groups in Wilmette's open spaces. Unfortunately, if the usage of parks becomes a health concern and social distancing is not being adhered to, additional measures will be taken including closing of the parks and beach.
PLEASE NOTE THE EXTENSION OF OUR FACILITY SHUTDOWN: In accordance with Governor Pritzker’s executive order, 2020-10, the Wilmette Park District has closed all facilities and playgrounds through April 30.
PLEASE NOTE THE EXTENSION OF OUR PROGAMMING CANCELATION: We have canceled the Spring 2020 Session of programming which runs March 30 through June 7 (June 14 for Centennial Ice). This is due to Governor Pritzker’s executive order, 2020-10, which has extended the stay at home order through April 30, which is half of the Spring 2020 Session.
As we work remotely during the shutdown, Park District staff will apply a prorated refund to your Household Account for all canceled programming, classes and rentals from March 13 through the Spring 2020 Session. All memberships will also be extended for time lost.
Please note the following programs, workshops and events have been canceled:
April 11 – Children’s and Doggie Egg Hunt
April 17 – Father / Son Nerf Battle
April 17 – Family Fine Arts Night
April 23 – Early Childhood Parents Night out at Paddle
April 27-May 3 – WCT Mini Show, Miss Nelson is Missing
May 2 – Touch a Truck
May 8 – Guided Bird Walks
May 15-17 – Spring Ice Show
We will continuously evaluate the situation and inform the community of any decisions made. We recognize the seriousness of the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in our community. We urge all residents to follow the Center for Disease Control’s tips by staying home if sick; avoiding close contact with people who are sick; covering coughs and sneezes; avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth; and washing hands with soap and water.
