Jr Trevians Football
Jr. Trevians Tackle Football Program
A revamped and combined program for grades 3rd through 8th will be offered to the New Trier community for residents of the New Trier Township High School district: Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe, Northfield and Kenilworth. The new program name is Junior Trevians Youth Football and going forward, youth tackle football (formerly Wilmette Eagles and Winnetka Green Wave) will be run as a single program, independent of the local park districts and led by a volunteer board of resident parents. The program will use the Winnetka Park District turf fields for practices and New Trier High School fields for games. The park districts will not be offering an alternative tackle football program.
The objectives of the tackle football program include introducing players to safe and proper techniques, conditioning, football skills, and instilling a spirit of sportsmanship and team work. This closely supervised program will be run with hands-on guidance from the NTHS coaching and trainer staff. Player safety will be the #1 goal. All coaches and staff are trained in concussion related awareness and safe tackling training, and parents will be provided with concussion awareness materials as well.
All teams: Heavyweight (mainly 8th graders), Lightweight (7th and 8th graders), Middleweight (mostly 6th graders) and Flyweight (5th and 6th graders) and the 4th grade team will continue to play in the Central Suburban Youth Football League (CSYFL). Given the enhanced partnership with NTHS Head Coach Doll and his coaching staff, including offensive and defensive play schemes, the program will be considered a direct feeder team to the New Trier HS football program.
The program will provide all players with helmets, shoulder pads, game and practice uniforms. All players MUST use program provided Riddell helmets and shoulder pads. Players will not be allowed to use outside equipment. The Junior Trevian Football program will holding fitting sessions for the Riddell equipment to ensure proper safety.
Practices will begin on August 8th for Lightweight and Heavyweight teams and on August 15th for Middleweight, Flyweight, and 4th grade teams. Games typically start the Sunday after Labor day and conclude in early November.
