V. Discussion

A. Woman’s Club of Wilmette Property

Barb Bischoff introduced herself as the Co-President of the Woman’s Club of Wilmette. Kay Malm President of the Woman’s Club thanked the Park District for their generous use of the Park District space during the transition with the building fire tragedy. She highlighted on the history of the Women’s Club. Ms. Malm stated that the Women’s Club is in the process of putting together a plan to create the funds needed to continue their club. She is hoping to create a community house with shared governance. She stated that a roof needs to be in place by winter so their plan needs to take place fairly quickly. Commissioner Abbott commented that with government bodies it would be hard to move at the pace they may need. She stated they are looking at the space to see how they can meet community needs and make the space more adaptable.

Commissioner Olvany asked about parking. The Women’s Club commented that they never have had a problem or complaints from the community due to parking on the street during events. They also work with surrounding neighbors for additional parking needs.

The Women’s Club would like the District to look at their programming needs and see if a partnership plan with common interests with the Women’s Club building could work. Commissioner Olvany stated that he will share their plan with the Staff to see if they see a need for this.

Commissioner Olvany acknowledged visitors John and Aimee Eichelberger regarding the easement on their property.

Commissioner Olvany acknowledged Joe Keefe and invited him to speak to the Committee. Mr. Keefe commented that the Keefe family trust owns a piece of property butting up to the 10 hole at Canal Shores. Mr. Keefe presented and discussed the property location. The family would like to sell this property. The family is working with Metropolitan Water and Reclamation District (MWRD) and they have requested that the family get in touch with the park district to get a letter in writing stating that the selling of this property will not interfere with the Wilmette Park District operations.  Commissioner Olvany requested that Mr. Keefe forward the letter from MWRD to the District to review before moving forward.
