V. New Business
Ms. Zun commented on gymnastics training at the District and how the hours have changed and are limited this past year. She is not sure why the girls cannot continue training with the team even when they are in high school since the boys can and train unlimited hours. Alison Smith stated that there are about 10 girls who would like to get more training during the off season, March through the end of October. Superintendent Bingham commented on factors that are currently making it challenging; several team coaches left to take full time jobs which has left the District shorthanded. She feels there are options that staff can look at. Commissioner Wolfe commented that it seems there is a need for this program with the amount of girls that would like to participate. Commissioner Wolfe asked if staff could look into finding additional coaches and available times. Superintendent Bingham will research further with Staff what has changed from last year to this year. Superintendent Bingham will contact Wendy Zun and Sue Smith with updates.
VI. Managers’ Reports
Jeff Groves (Facility Manager) reported on the following topics:
- Camp Fusion, Session II, is going well with 76 campers.
- Fitness will be closed for the annual cleaning and maintenance August 17-19.
- Gymnastics has 76 kids registered in Session II.
Superintendent Bingham reported for Carol Heafey (Program Manager) on the following topics:
The 3rd of July festivities had great crowds for the morning run at all age levels. The weather was great and we had a large crowd for the festival through the fireworks. Approximately 26,000 were in attendance.
- Camps are going well. 3,842 registrants for camps just in the recreation areas.
- Preschool is doing great. Kindergarten Enrichment is a little lower this year. Marketing is going to be taking place for this area. After School Recreation program is also going well.
VII. Unfinished Business
A. Wilmette Wings Association Field Lighting
Superintendent Bingham reported there is nothing new to report since the last meeting.
B. Website RFP
Marlon Rodas reported that only one bid was received. Director Wilson commented that this will push back the implementation of the website for at least a couple of months. Director Wilson stated that staff will go back and review the RFP again to see what changes could be made. The Committee agreed if there are substantial changes to the RFP staff should send it in an email to Commissioners for review. This will help keep the process moving.
There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
