Title: General Recreation Supervisor

Reports To: Recreation Program Manager

Facility: Community Recreation Center

Status: Full Time Exempt

Major duties and responsibilities.
The General Recreation Supervisor is responsible for planning, directing, implementing and evaluating the Park District’s recreation programs including classes, camps, special events and workshops.  Additional responsibilities include recommending additions to, or modifications of, existing programs along with the development and maintenance of teen programs.

Required Education and Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field with one year experience. Individuals with prior experience working with teen programs, special events and camps are preferred.

Work Schedule
The General Recreation Supervisor will have varying hours.  Due to the nature of recreation work, evening and weekend hours are to be expected. The Recreation Program Manager will approve general hours of duty for various seasons of the year.

Title: Aquatic Facility Supervisor

Reports To: Facility Manager

Facility: Centennial Family Aquatic Center

Status: Part-Time Seasonal

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Aquatic Facility Supervisors will be responsible for managing the daily operations of Centennial Park Family Aquatic Center. Management of all facility staff will include Maintenance Staff, Cashiers, and Guest Services. Supervisors must have a working knowledge of the aforementioned jobs in order to supervise the operations related to these positions. Distributing change as needed from petty cash safe. Keeping accurate daily records, maintaining rescue equipment in working order and reporting safety concerns to the Facility Manager. Dealing with all aquatic staff in a professional manner in order to maintain the highest levels of safety while providing the utmost in customer service. Coordinating and implementing in-service training sessions to keep facility staff informed. Administer first aid as necessary. Initiate Emergency Action Plan and appropriate follow up if an emergency occurs. Communicate any conflicts or challenges with the Leadership Team and work together to resolve these conflicts on a timely basis. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Facility Manager.

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in an aquatic facility environment. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Cash handling, facility operations, and direct supervision of part time facility staff.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of people including lifeguards other pool staff.
  • Problem solving ability, creative thinking, and accurate record keeping skills.
  • Must be available for the entire operating season through Labor Day

Work Schedule:
Work all hours as scheduled by the Facility Manager.

Title: Lifeguard
Reports To
: Assistant Facility Manager, Head Lifeguard
Facility: Centennial Family Aquatic Center
Status: Part-Time Seasonal

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Head Lifeguards and Assistant Facility Manager, lifeguards are responsible for patrolling the pool in order to maintain the absolute safety of the facility. Enforcing rules, applying first aid and resuscitation techniques when needed, supervising swimmers in assigned areas of the pools during its use, preventing accidents, maintaining discipline and making rescues when necessary, practicing rescue skills, first aid techniques, and CPR skills to remain at “rescue ready” levels at all times throughout the season, reporting any discipline, safety, or maintenance concerns to the Manager on Duty immediately. Other duties as assigned by the Head Lifeguard or Assistant Facility Manager

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must meet vision standards (corrected or uncorrected) as required by StarGuard.
  • As a condition of employment, must be able to pass all elements of the StarGuard Lifeguard training program including physical skills exams and written tests.

Work Schedule:

  • Lifeguards must attend all pre season training sessions as designated.
  • In-service training throughout the summer is required.
  • Lifeguards will be asked to work extra hours as weather and usage dictates.
  • Lifeguards may be sent home due to inclement weather or closing of the facility.
  • Lifeguards must maintain their given schedule through August 15
  • Lifeguards must not leave for extended vacation time during the season.
  • No more than one week of consecutive vacation time is allowed

Title: Swim Instructor
Reports To
: Learn to Swim Supervisors
Facility: Centennial Family Aquatic Center
Status: Part-Time Seasonal

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Swim Lesson Instructors will be responsible for teaching children to swim under the Wilmette Park District Swim Lesson Program guidelines. Instructors will set up the pools before lessons, clean up after lessons and properly and neatly store all lesson equipment. Maintaining the highest levels of safety during the lesson times, while providing the children with the best lesson experience possible. Communicating any conflicts or challenges with the Learn to Swim Supervisors and working as a team with the other instructors and supervisors to resolve these conflicts on a timely basis. Teach private lessons as assigned.

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and enjoy working with children.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Training would be offered to those who show interest and enthusiasm for the job during the interview process.
  • Must be available for all pre season training sessions and the entire operating season and in-service training sessions as designated by the Assistant Facility Manager.

Work Schedule:

  • Weekday Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:30am-1:15pm
  • Weekend Hours: Saturdays 8:45am - 11:15am, Sundays 8:45am - 11:15am
  • Instructors must be available for the full 7 weeks of the lesson program
  • Instructors must attend all pre season training sessions as designated.
  • Instructors must attend all in-service training sessions as designated.
