Park Renovations Are Underway

The Tot Lot at Shorewood Park is scheduled for renovations that will include equipment replacement, new trees and plants, park benches and rubber play surfaces.
     The Shorewood Park Tot Lot plan includes replacement of all the equipment as well as work to alleviate some standing water problems in the park which is located north of Elmwood Avenue parallel to the Union Pacific tracks.
     Keeping alive the park’s “train” identity, a new two car train will replace the popular red train that had been in place for about 20 years. New play equipment has been designed for two age groups – 2 to 5-year-olds and 5 to 12-year-olds and includes a variety of climbing structures and slides. The new play surface is a poured-in-place rubber which provides a clean play area that does not need ongoing maintenance.
     In an effort to address some standing water issues in the park, the plan also includes an underground detention area and new plants in a rain garden that will absorb a lot of water.
     Work on the tot lot is expected to begin in late September with a tentative completion date in October. A downloadable version of the park plan drawing is available at the bottom of this page.
