2022-23 CARE Programs

CARE After School

• Formerly known as After School Recreation
• Quality childcare and free time activities
• Register separately for afternoon Community Recreation Center (CRC) classes
• 2, 3, & 5-day options

Be near the action and come to CARE! We will bus your child from his/her school to the CRC for our CARE program. CARE ends at 4:45 p.m., and participants can choose to extend their day by:

• Registering separately for seasonal afternoon classes located at the CRC: CARE staff will escort participants to and from scheduled programs; or
• Extend the day with CARE until 6 p.m. Extended-day participants have additional time to work on homework independently and engage in structured, play-based free time activities.

NOTE: two-day and three-day participants have until August 1, 2022 to select which days of the week they wish to attend. Registration is for the full school year. CARE follows the Wilmette D39 school calendar. Fee includes bus service; for Romona students, bus service is billed separately.

Art Enrichment
Grade K-4
The perfect class for the beginner artist wishing to learn the proper art terminology! Artists will explore a variety of medium, including painting, paper crafting, ceramics and more. Different art terminology will be talked about each week and incorporated into the artwork. Thursday afternoons

Breakdance Enrichment
Grade K-4
Students learn awesome breakdance moves in this class! Wednesday afternoons

Chess Enrichment
Grade K-4
The student will receive professional instruction that will include the basics and move into opening theory, middle game tactics, and strategies, plus end-game combinations. Monday afternoons

Cheer Enrichment
Grade K-4
Under the creative direction of Chicago Loves Dance, students will learn the fundamentals and basics of cheerleading, learning cheers, formations, and poms/dance choreography over the session. Monday afternoons

Coding 1 Enrichment
Grade K-4
Code Class is our entry-level program, only for newbie coders. However, we can also accommodate students with previous coding experience. In our introductory Code Class, our Coaches use Scratch to teach kids using our project-based game development curriculum, in a traditional class-like environment. By learning through repetition, students will be able to learn the fundamentals of coding in a fun and engaging way. Throughout the session, every student will have the opportunity to present a chosen project if interested. Monday afternoons

Cooking Enrichment
Grade K-4
Let your child release their inner chef! Students will prepare and eat healthy, globally-inspired recipes all while learning to cook in a fun, engaging and real-world way! Our Chefs will reinforce kitchen skills and emphasize each area of cooking--terminology, ingredients and fun nutrition facts. We will practice measurements, use a wide array of cooking utensils all while preparing the freshest ingredients. Hip Hop Enrichment
Grade K-4
Under the creative direction of skilled Chicago Loves Dance instructors, students will learn choreography to newest pop/dance songs, show off their creativity in free-style choreography sessions and more. Chicago Loves Dance runs on the philosophy that dance should open your child's creative abilities and be FUN! We pride ourselves on teaching the self-esteem and socialization needed in everyday life through the activity of dance and performance. Thursday afternoons

Stage Stars Enrichment
Grade K-4
It's your time to shine; it's acting time! In Stage Stars, children will learn theater terms, play games, and act in short skits. During theater games, students will use their creativity to communicate and improvise. The carefully selected skits are based on folk tales that teach cooperation and positive moral values. Every student will have the opportunity to play at least one lead role per session. Also, Stage Stars participants can earn prizes for identifying and explaining parts of a skit and goals of the characters. Each child will receive a participation award. Thursday afternoons

STEAM Enrichment
Grade K-4
This exciting program from Afterschool Enrichment Solutions brings together every element of STEAM in a hands-on, action-packed environment! Each week, we'll actively explore a concept related to science, math, engineering or art. Conduct science experiments, try out unplugged coding activities, strengthen your math skills with grade-level-appropriate games, and unlock your creativity through engineering challenges and art projects. Topics covered include aerodynamics, surface tension, buoyancy, air resistance, problem-solving and teamwork. Each class consists of a warm-up game, a "main event" where the primary learning point for the day is explored, and a wind-down game to refocus energy as we transition to home or after-care. Our curriculum uses everyday household supplies, you can go home and recreate the experiments and activities for your families and discuss what your learned! Wednesday afternoons

Tumbling Enrichment

The primary focus of this class will be to learn tumbling skills, from handstands and cartwheels to back handsprings and back tucks. Wednesday afternoons

Yoga Enrichment
Grade K-4
For those new to Yoga or looking to deepen their understanding of basic postures. Learn to relax and release tensions from your body and mind. Yoga mat will be supplied. Tuesday afternoons
